Jackie “Jack” Dale Rearden, 79, died Saturday, Oct. 24 at Lexington Medical Center; visitation is today from 5 to 7 p.m. at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home, 515 Miller Road, and his funeral will be Wednesday, Oct. 28 at 2 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery.

Education
The school board met Monday, Oct. 26 at 6 p.m. at the district office, 1345 Wilson Hall Road, for Superintendent Gerald Gary’s annual evaluation in closed executive session.
The meeting did not include public participation and was broadcast live on YouTube and the district’s Facebook page.

The Myrtle Beach Sports Center hosted the SCISA state volleyball tournament over the weekend, and Sumter teams Wilson Hall, Laurence Manning, Thomas Sumter, and Lee Academy competed; Wilson Hall advanced deep but fell just short of reaching the 4A title game.
