🎓 Education
At a commemoration ceremony on Thursday at USC Sumter, officials named the renovated Science Building (opened two years ago) in honor of former dean Michael Sonntag, with a local trust providing funding to mark his lasting contributions.
🏛️ Government
Clarendon County officials temporarily halted data center approvals as a company considers establishing a facility at the county industrial park.
The county council unanimously passed a first reading today (Aug. 15) to review the project's potential impact.
The Clarendon County Archives have closed as a sign now marks the location, and the county council has nearly finished moving its historical records to The Manning Times & the relocation will be finalized soon.
🏈 Sports
Wilson Hall volleyball kicked off fall with two road wins on Tuesday and Thursday as they beat The King's Academy 3-0 and swept Orangeburg Prep (using an experienced squad) to set a confident tone for the season.
The Sumter High girls golf program kicks off its season on Monday with the Sumter Invitational at Beech Creek.
Eighteen teams from across the state, including local squads from Wilson Hall and Laurence Manning, will participate in the home tourney.
